Beverly Greenwalt

Beverly Jean Greenwalt, 83, of Gering, Nebraska, passed to glory on January 22, 2023.  A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, January 27, 2022, at First United Methodist Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Craig Collins officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff. Friends are invited to join the family at the church an hour prior to service time for refreshments.  Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, January 26, 2023, at Reverence Funeral Parlor in Scottsbluff.  Memorials may be made to the Scottsbluff First United Methodist Church Outreach Program or to Team Jack Foundation (Pediatric Brain Cancer Research). Beverly’s Circle of Life began on July 23, 1939, when she became the oldest daughter of Victor and Esther (Henkel) Martin and ended peacefully at her home in Gering on January 22, 2023 after a valiant two and a half year brain cancer journey.

Beverly attended Victory Hill School through the tenth grade before transitioning to Scottsbluff High School and graduating with the class of 1958.  She received an Associate of Arts degree in elementary education from Scottsbluff Junior College in 1960.

She married Roy Kent Greenwalt on June 19, 1960, at the Gering Methodist Church.  Two children were born to this union: Troy and Vicki.

Beverly taught third grade at Roosevelt Elementary School in Scottsbluff from 1960 to 1965 until Troy was born. She was a devoted mother and homemaker for twenty years until returning to the workforce in 1985. She then coded x-rays for insurance purposes and was the receptionist for Medical Imaging Associates until 2007.

Beverly enjoyed gardening, tending her beloved flowers, sewing, crafts, camping trips when her kids were younger, monthly outings with her Red Hat sisters, monthly lunches with her classmates, the Gering Methodist sewing group, mailing the church newsletter, counting the weekly church offering, and serving as a communion steward.  Beverly was a devoted wife and mother who was filled with love, grace, deep faith, and devotion.  The strength and courage she showed during her brain cancer journey was an inspiration to all who were blessed to know her.

Beverly is survived by her husband of 62 years, Kent; daughter, Vicki (Randy) Burbach; son, Troy (Lorraine) Greenwalt; sister, Judy Spreier; brother-in-law, Dennis Greenwalt; along with nieces, nephews, and a host of friends and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; extended family and many dear friends.
