Donald Dee Evans, age 90, of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, died Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at Western Nebraska Veterans’ Home in Scottsbluff. Private inurnment will be held at the Bayard Cemetery in Bayard, Nebraska. Cremation has taken place. Memorials may be made to the family and will be given towards breast cancer research. Don was born June 9, 1932, in Sidney, Nebraska to Alfred Ray Evans and Florence Marie (Alfred). He attended Sunol Schools.
Don married LaVonne Irene Pringle on June 15, 1949, at Julesburg, Colorado. The couple moved to Albany, Oregon where Don was employed as a policeman. They later ventured to Winner, South Dakota and Don began a position as a pressman at the Winner Advocate. He and LaVonne purchased the Mellette County News in White River, South Dakota in 1959 and were in operation until a fire destroyed the business in 1971. They moved to Irene, South Dakota and purchased the paper, owning and operating it for four years. Don and LaVonne relocated again to Prairie City, Oregon, where they owned another paper company until LaVonne’s passing in 1979. Don returned to Nebraska and began working as the manager of the Sidney Telegraph until his retirement.
Survivors include his daughter, Twila Paranto of Broomfield, Colorado; sons, Randy (Judy) Evans and Rick (Rosa) Evans all of Garden City, Kansas; stepson, Randy (Shirley) Basting of Chamberlain, South Dakota; brother, Paul Evans of Bayard, Nebraska; twelve grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren; along with other extended family members.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Florence; wife, LaVonne; brothers, Al and Virgil Evans; sisters, LaWana Bennett and Connie Benker; and son-in-law, Tim Paranto.
