Donald Dean Herman, 83, of Mitchell, passed away Saturday, April 20, 2024, at his son’s home surrounded by family. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, April 29, 2024, at Reverence Funeral Parlor in Scottsbluff with Pastor Al Wilson officiating. Inurnment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery near Scottsbluff. Memorials may be made to the Panhandle Humane Society in Don’s name. Don was born on January 21, 1941, in rural McGrew, Nebraska to Fred and Cecile (Lammert) Herman. He attended school in Bayard primarily to have fun.
He was united in marriage to Sibble Joann Howie on June 14, 1958, in Bayard and they raise five children who all remain in the area. Don worked at the Bayard, Mitchell and Scottsbluff sugar factories. He drove truck over the road for American Colliad. Unfortunately, Don was injured on a power take off and became disabled. He then drove locally for Aulick for ten years.
Don and Sibble raised sweet corn and sold it in the valley for over 20 years. Their family helped with picking the corn each year and it was the best sweet corn ever grown.
Don enjoyed time with family, visiting and reminiscing/telling stories about the past. He liked to watch football and basketball, Jeopardy, The Price Is Right, The View and the RFD channel.
Don is survived by his sister, Bonnie (Harry) Meister; sisters-in-law, Tina Herman, Diane (Pat) Lenhart; children, Ricky Herman (Kat Dow), Timmy (Tammy) Herman, Kenny (Yvette) Herman, Tammy Ozuna, Sherry Hara-Michaelis; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sibble Herman; his parents; brothers, Telford and Thurman (TK) Herman; granddaughter, Alicia Herman; and son-in-law Ron Michaelis.
