ERMA LUCILE HAMBURG, age 101, formerly of Minatare, Nebraska passed away Friday, December 13, 2024, at The Residency in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. She will be laid to rest at West Lawn Cemetery in Gering, Nebraska. No services will be held. Erma was born October 30, 1923, in Beaver Crossing, Nebraska to Clarence and Eunice (Larkin) Tyrrell. She graduated from Ord High School in 1942 where she was a member of the Ord High School Glee Club Chorus as well as Mixed Chorus.
Erma married Leroy Hamburg on May 19, 1946, at the First United Methodist Church in Scottsbluff. A daughter, Judy, was born in December 1948.
Early on the family lived in Scottsbluff and Minatare, later moving to Portland, Oregon in about 1955. They eventually returned to Minatare where Erma and Leroy resided for most of their lives.
She worked at JC Penny Company in the shoe department during her young adult years. Later, Erma was a secretary for Johns & Neal Implement in Minatare until it closed. She then worked for the Minatare State Bank (Bank of Gering) where she was an officer and notary until her retirement. Erma also served on the election board for many years.
Erma had a talent for sewing, crafting, knitting, crocheting, and quilting. She offered support and encouragement to many and had a mischievous streak which was part of her personality and enjoyed by the younger generation.
Survivors include her husband, Leroy of Scottsbluff; daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Ken Templin of Bloomington, IL; grandchildren, Tasha (Shane) Tomlinson and Travis (Holly)Templin all of Bloomington, IL; great-grandson, Andrew Templin of Bloomington, IL; sister, Janice Cassinelli of Hemet, CA; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Howard (Donna) Hamburg of Oregon, Tom Hamburg of Idaho, Lucile (Melvyn) Hood of Washington, and Ruth Hamburg of Gering; along with many nieces and nephews.
Erma was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Eunice; three brothers, Keith, Kenneth, and Max; two sisters, Donna Terrell and Madine Roberts; in-laws, Conrad and Margaret Hamburg; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Henry, John, Ben, Daniel, Al, Willard, Edward, Harold, Danny, Irene, Dorothy, Josephine, and Leona.
