Helen L. Huck

Helen L. Huck, age 84, of Gering, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 14, 2024, at her home surrounded by family. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, October 21, 2024, at Reverence Funeral Parlor in Scottsbluff, Nebraska with Pastor Garry Schick officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time at the parlor. Helen was born on December 9, 1939, in Mitchell, Nebraska, to Conrad Sr. and Louise (Wiegel) Wilhelm. She lived in Riverton, Wyoming, before attending school in the Bayard and Minatare area. She graduated from Minatare High School in 1958. She worked at the Dash-in in Scottsbluff for two years after high school.

Helen married Floyd Hessler on February 28, 1960, in Scottsbluff. She was a homemaker and helped on the farm while raising two children: Steven L. and Cindy A. They farmed in Bayard for a few years, then moved to Scottsbluff and later Morrill to continue farming. After Floyd's passing on April 18, 1992, Helen worked at Walmart briefly and then at the Residency in Scottsbluff.

Helen married James “Jim” Huck on March 25, 1995, and moved to Mitchell, South Dakota, where she continued to be a farm wife. She was an active member of the Resurrection Lutheran Church for many years.

Helen had many talents, such as cooking, including German food and desserts. She also loved to sew, crochet, quilt, and embroider. In the later years, she even did some woodworking. She enjoyed gardening and tending to her yard on her riding lawn mower.

Helen is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Diana Hessler of Gering; grandson, Scott (Stacey) Hessler of Douglas, WY and their children: Cody and Teagan; granddaughter, Melissa (Chase) Langenberg of Kearney, NE and their children: Paisley and Austin; step-sons, Jimmy (Terri) Huck and Mike (Joann) Huck all of Cheyenne, WY and Robert (Rebecca) Huck of North Carolina; three step-grandsons and three step-granddaughters; siblings, Alex (Fonda) Wilhelm of Arvada, CO, Janet Gusman of Sidney, NE, and Sam Wilhelm of Bayard, NE.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Conrad Sr. and Louise Wilhelm; both husbands, Floyd Hessler and James Huck; daughter, Cindy A. Reavis; two brothers, Conrad Wilhelm Jr. and Manuel Wilhelm; brother-in-law, Ronald Gusman; and two infant sisters.
