Javier Corona Sr., age 71, of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, went to meet the Lord on Thursday, April 10, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at his home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Scottsbluff with Fr. Joseph Thambi as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff. A Rosary will be held at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at the church. A private family viewing will be held prior. Memorials may be made in care of the family for later designation. The Mass will be live-streamed and recorded on Javier’s obituary page viewable at www.reverencefuneralparlor.com.
Javier was born on November 17, 1953, in Delicias, Chihuahua, Mexico to Jose and Petra (Rivera) Corona and was raised in Las Nieves, Durango. He immigrated to the United States in his early twenties and made his home in Torrington, Wyoming, where he met his wife, Jane (Peña) Corona. They were united in marriage on August 23, 1975. The couple moved to Scottsbluff soon after and welcomed and raised their children: Javier Jr., Lori, Jesus, Martin, and were later blessed to adopt, Jaslen.
During Javier’s lifetime, he worked at Lockwood as a crane operator, Schaver Seed Farms as a leadman, and Western Valley Packing and Packerland Packing in their maintenance department. When Javier left Packerland, he began his own business, Corona & Son's Construction, which he operated until his health declined. However, even while resting, he was always thinking about the next job.
He was a devoted husband, caring father, proud grandfather, and loyal friend. Known for his strong work ethic, kind heart, and goofy sense of humor, he had a way of making people feel seen, supported, and loved. Javier welcomed many people into his home, and if you were not given a nickname, you were not part of the family.
He spent his life working to provide for his family and was a jack of all trades. There was nothing that he could not do or fix. He always made time to help others, especially those most in need - whether it was repairing something, teaching a life lesson, offering a listening ear, or cracking a joke to lighten the mood.
Those who had the pleasure of knowing him knew that he was a talker and made friends everywhere he went. He enjoyed spending time with his family, dancing to cumbias, cooking, fishing, and tending to his amazing garden. A piece of advice: talk to your plants, they will grow faster and stronger (according to Javier).
Javier Sr. is survived by his wife, Jane Corona; sons and daughters, Javier Jr. (Becky) Corona, Lori (Israel) Marquez, Jesus (Francine) Corona, Martin Corona, and Jaslen Corona all of Scottsbluff; grandchildren, Selma, Ilyanah, and Lexi Corona, Yazmin and Vianey Marquez, Julian and Felipe Corona, Querida and Aaliyah Ybarra, and Adrianna Casias; two great-grandchildren, Camilo and Javan Avalos; brothers, Jesus Armando (Alexandra) Corona of California, Rodolfo Del Valle of Mexico, and Juan Rivera of Colorado; nephews, Andrew, Sebastian, and Nicolas all of California; as well as many special friends who were like family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose Corona and Petra Rivera Corona; and in-laws, Eralio and Josephina Pena.
Javier leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and the kind of steadfast presence that made life feel a little safer, warmer, and better. He had a huge desire to remain on this earth and stayed positive until the very end, but the Lord had other plans for him. He is now at peace planting his garden in heaven. You loved us for all your lifetime, and we will love you for all of ours.
The Corona family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. John Carrington, oncologists Dr. Bjorling and Sue Schoeneman, as well as nurses and staff at Regional West Infusion Center, Brookestone Home Health & Hospice, and his many loyal customers.
