Jeanne Marie Matthews, 78, of Scottsbluff, Nebraska passed away Tuesday, October 18, 2022, at The Residency Care Center with her husband and children by her side. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, October 22, 2022, at St. Francis Episcopal Church in Scottsbluff, with Rev. Erin Rath and Rev. Robert Manasek officiating. A reception will follow at the church. Cremation has taken place in accordance with Jeanne’s wishes. Memorials may be made to the Friends of Alzheimer’s and Dementia or the Alzheimer’s Association. The service will be livestreamed and recorded to Jeanne’s obituary page viewable at www.reverencefuneralparlor.com.

Jeanne was born April 19, 1944, in Scottsbluff to Jim Pointer and Gladyce Pointer (Kronberg).  She was doated on by her older brother, Jimmy Ted, who loved her from the day she arrived.  She graduated from Scottsbluff High School in 1962 and shortly after would marry Jim Farlow.  Jeanne and Jim were blessed with a son, Chuck, and two daughters, Debbie and Katie.  Her children, and later in life her grandchildren, were always the focus of her love and affection. She loved cuddles, kisses, and singing her favorite songs – “How much is that doggie in the window?” and “I love you a bushel and a peck.”

Jeanne would meet long-term love, Craig Matthews, in 1988 while trying to sell him furniture. Their union would add a stepdaughter, Ginger, to her family and together, she and Craig would build a life with a remarkable love for one another. Craig was by her side though it all as Jeanne progressed through Alzheimer’s, beginning as her full-time caregiver, and then supporting her during her time at the care center.

Jeanne loved people by visiting with them at the grocery store, post office, or anywhere she happened to be.  She was steadfast and dedicated in supporting her family through a sales’ career that started at ABC Kiddie Shop then at Doering’s, Taylor Furniture, Webber’s Furniture, Strong’s Country Store, and Furniture Tech.  Jeanne delighted in her customers’ joy of buying a new item, and the feeling was reciprocal.

Jeanne had a strong faith and love for God. Jeanne was active in the St. Andrews (now St. Francis) alter guild and choir.  She loved to sing hymns and loved caroling during midnight mass at Christmas time.  Her faith was her own – she loved when family attended but was fine to attend church on her own as well. It was a place of peace and comfort for her.

Her life was a living example of the Bible verse, “And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.”  Ephesians 4:32.

Jeanne is survived by her husband, Craig Matthews; son, Chuck Farlow; daughters, Debbie (Robert) Pearson and Katie (Christopher) Camacho; stepdaughter, Ginger (Gary) Barthel; her brother, Jim Pointer; her grandchildren, Greg Farlow, Sarah Farlow, Megan Farlow, Rachel Pearson, Laura Farlow, Max Pearson, Julia Camacho, Samantha Camacho, and Quentin Camacho; and countless extended family and friends that were a very special part of her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Gladyce Pointer; her in-laws, Maro and Helen Matthews; sister-in-law, Melva Pointer; and her step-grandson, Geremy Barthel.
