Jessie Acosta

Jessie Acosta, 100, formerly of Fort Morgan, Colorado, passed away on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Chimney Rock Villa in Bayard, Nebraska. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at St. Helena Catholic Church in Fort Morgan with Reverend Joseph Oiye as celebrant. A Rosary will be recited beginning at 10 A.M. at the church. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Fort Morgan. Services have been entrusted with Heer Mortuary & Crematory in Fort Morgan. Jessie was born July 26, 1924, in Fort Morgan, Colorado to Tony and Maria Baltazar. She grew up in Fort Morgan eventually going to work at Fort Morgan Community Hospital in housekeeping. She was united in marriage to Paul Acosta on September 25, 1954, and to this union their daughter, Karen, was born in 1955. Their marriage was short lived when Paul passed away in 1957. 

She devoted herself to her work and raising her daughter. Jessie attended nursing school and obtained her LPN license. During her employment, she received the Mercy Award and Employee of the Year. She was once featured in a newspaper article stating she had assisted in the number of births equal to the population of Vail, Colorado. Jessie worked in nursing for 52 years until her retirement on April 13, 2006.

Jessie was a member of St. Helena Catholic Church and was very active in the Altar and Rosary Society. She enjoyed visiting with friends and attending and participating in church functions. Jessie later moved to Nebraska to live with her daughter and family.

She enjoyed embroidering, crocheting, and gardening, being especially proud of growing roses. When she moved to Nebraska, Jessie loved following her great-grandsons in wrestling, basketball, cross country, and track. The boys’ teammates got to know her well as GG.

Survivors include her sister, Angie Rodriguez; daughter, Karen (John) Araujo; granddaughters, Melissa Araujo, Jill (Dave) Kildow, and Jennifer (Richard Ramos) Araujo; great-grandchildren, Alexander and Zachary Araujo, Jessica (Cory) Faessler, Kassidy (Collin) Harvey, Kyle (Linz) Kildow; and great-great grandchildren, JayLynn, Lylah and Knox Harvey.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Acosta; parents, Tony and Maria Baltazar; brothers, Louis, Nick, and Emilio Baltazar; sisters, Julia Dominguez and Ester Sisneros; and nieces and nephews.
