Sandra “Sue” Lou Shelly, 77, of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, passed away Friday, June 7, 2024, at Monument Rehab and Care in Scottsbluff. Cremation has taken place in accordance with her wishes. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, June 21, 2024, at Lighthouse Community Assembly of God Church in Minatare, Nebraska with Pastor Dwight Sandoz and Pastor Paul Maunu officiating. Inurnment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff. Memorials in Sue’s honor may be made to Lighthouse Community Assembly of God Church. Sue was born March 25, 1947, in Middlesborough, Kentucky to William Frank Sr. and Mattie Ellen (Barnett) Self. She attended elementary and middle school in Minatare.
She was united in marriage to Gene “Butch” Shelly on July 1, 1967. They became the proud parents to three children; Franklin, Victoria, and Norma.
Sue and Gene made a life together as ranchers. She worked with cattle for many years and was a first responder for Morrill County for most of the 90’s and early 2000’s.
Sue was a devoted member of the Lighthouse Community Assembly of God Church. She loved to go camping and fishing at Lake Minatare. Sue also enjoyed attending rodeos and dancing.
Survivors include her daughter, Victoria (Michael) Cerda of Scottsbluff; siblings, Junior (Carol) Self of Gering, Jim (Annalisa) Self of Germany, Dorothy Sterkel of Lincoln, and Ethel Long of Scottsbluff; grandchildren, Steve Pastrana of Colorado, Kayla Cerda of Texas, Nichole Salazar of Minatare, Lyndsei Cornish of Florida, Franki Doty of Gering, Tommy and Kyle Doty of Kansas, Frankie Self Jr. of Colorado, and Jennifer Roos of Scottsbluff; and numerous beloved great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Shelly; children, Frank Self and Norma Doty; and her brother, Teri Self.
