November 15, 1939 — July 15, 2024

Shirley Ann Schaub, 84, of Scottsbluff, passed into her heavenly home on Monday, July 15, 2024. A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, July 19, 2024, at Emmanuel Congregational Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Garry Schick and Luke Worden officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time at the church. Memorials may be made to Emmanuel Congregational Church. The service will be live-streamed and recorded to Shirley’s obituary page viewable at www.reverencefuneralparlor.com.

Shirley was born November 15, 1939, in Scottsbluff to Bill and Leah (Meisner) Helzer. She was a student at Scottsbluff High School where she participated in cheerleading, was a drum majorette, and played trombone, marimba, and organ. Shirley was named Miss Scottsbluff runner-up as a teen. She graduated from Scottsbluff High School at age seventeen as a member of Quill and Scroll and National Honor Society honoree. Immediately following high school, Shirley accepted a position at JG Elliott Company. Her career there would span over an incredible fifty years until her retirement.

Shirley was the Vice President of JG Elliott. She was responsible for books, payroll, HR, and using Mr. Jim Massey’s style of management referred to as MBWA (Management By Walking Around). Jim often stated that Shirley ran the place and he just showed up. He said that Shirley made that place tick and, “without her, there would be no JGE”. Shirley admired first Jack Elliott and then all the Masseys. She always said, “No one ever had any better bosses than I did.” They were not only bosses, but deeply cherished friends.

Shirley married Roger D. Schaub on May 15, 1960. Together they welcomed two children, Scott and Joni, and raised their family in Scottsbluff.

Shirley was an avid bowler throughout the years and carried a personal best score of 220. She and her mother shared a wonderful memory of winning the city doubles bowling championship together. She and Roger liked country western dancing and traveling to Deadwood with dear friends. They also enjoyed simple Friday night dinners out with the squad. Shirley faithfully attended Emmanuel Congregational Church serving as a treasurer and secretary. She also took photos and designed the church directory, and founded and organized Church Friends to visit shut ins. She enjoyed being a part of Mary Martha Circle and bible studies.

Shirley was an encourager of everyone she met. Her love for her Lord and neighbor was evident from cards in the mail with articles laminated sent to congratulate, to making floral arrangements, to offering helping hands in any way. She never missed a child or grandchild’s event. Shirley and Roger were there at baseball, football, swimming, track, band concerts, and speech contests, traveling all over the country, if need be, to fervently support their family. She deeply loved her husband and companion of 64 years, Roger. You didn’t ever see one without the other. Their love and dedication to each other through the end was an impactful testimony to all who knew them.

Survivors include her beloved husband, Roger; son, Scott (Melissa) Schaub; daughter, Joni (Jamie) Worden; and grandchildren, Brandon (Amity) Schaub, Michael Schaub, Aubree (Aaron) Hawley, Luke (Sara) Worden, and Daniel Schaub; great-grandchildren, Bella and Dax Schaub, Stone and Ayla Worden, and Brynlee and Jase Hawley; brother, Gordon (Nancy) Schaub; along with other extended relatives and friends.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Leah Helzer; and nephew, Cam Schaub.
