Timothy Smith

February 2, 1960 — April 17, 2021

Timothy A. Smith, 61, of Scottsbluff, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 17, 2021 at the Monument Health Rapid City Hospital.  Cremation has taken place and a family celebration of life will be held.  Memorials may be made in lieu of flowers to the family and will be designated towards an education fund for his grandchildren.

Tim was born February 2, 1960 in Hudson, South Dakota to Rod Smith and Joan (Paulson) Smith. He received his early education in Rapid City, Lead and Scottsbluff schools, graduating from Scottsbluff High School in 1978. He accepted Jesus as his Savior on January 6, 1979. Tim married his best friend, Valerie Straetker, on April 18, 1981 at the Scottsbluff Berean Church and to this union Kassandra and Michael were born.

Tim enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, and watching Nebraska football and Los Angeles Dodgers baseball. He volunteered countless hours at the YMCA and was employed by Regional West Medical Center. He attended the First Baptist Church in Scottsbluff.

Tim is survived by his wife, Valerie; daughter, Kassandra (Seth) Hargens of New Bern, NC; son, Michael (Amy) Smith of Marion, KS; grandchildren, Olivia, Presley, Lawson, and Hudson Smith and Grace Hargens; father, Rod (Marie) Smith; mother, Joan Smith; brother, Pat (Michelle) Smith; sisters, Jackie (Rob) Gregory and Angie (Grant) Hinze; brothers-in-law, Bernie (Marjory) Straetker and Terry Straetker; sisters-in-law, Crystal Smith, Pam Straetker, Kaylene Straetker; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Rex and Fran Smith and George and Pearl Paulson; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bernard and Opal Straetker; and brother, Gary Smith.
