William "Dick" R. Yakel

William “Dick” R. Yakel, age 94, of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, passed away Friday, February 28, 2025, at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. A graveside service will be held at 10 A.M., Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff with Pastor Andy Griess officiating. Memorials may be made to the Zion Evangelical Church. Dick was born on February 22, 1931, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, to Jacob and Anna Mary (Kaiser) Yakel. 

He was united in marriage to Gladys Hessler on March 10, 1957, at the Zion Evangelical Church in Scottsbluff. The couple was blessed with their daughter, Terri, on June 28, 1958. 

Dick worked in the meat processing industry for Swift’s and later for Hoffman Twin City Pack until his retirement. He was a long-time member of the Zion Evangelical Church. 

Survivors include his daughter, Terri (Tim) Baily; grandchildren, Daniel (Julianne) Baily and Michelle (Wesley) Ransom; and great-grandchildren, Judah and Luke Baily, and Harper, Evelyn, and Audrey Ransom, all of Georgia. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys; 11 sisters; and 3 brothers.
